The Gamirasu Hotel is actually six exquisitely restored and integrated old village houses, set in a valley in the oldest part of the town. Until recently, part of the hotel was still used by Christian monks. A 12th century Byzantine Christian church forms part of the hotel, and the now restored Monastery kitchen is again fully functional. Some of the hotel rooms were actually once Monk cells, though now of course, they are a lot more comfortable. Restoration and adaptation of the buildings into the present
day hotel, was carried out with sympathetic consideration for the traditional
style and appearance of the original Cappadocian form. The rooms, and even the
beds, are designed to induce complete harmony between the human body and its
surroundings. Even just a short sleep in this completely natural |
setting, will induce a feeling of energy and vitality. Nothing to disturb you except the sound of nature. Breakfast consists of home made bread, clotted cream, honeycomb and fresh fruit, served on the walled terrace in the summer, and in a naturally furnished cave room during the cooler months. All the food from the hotel kitchen is prepared using fresh, organically grown ingredients. In every direction from the hotel there are splendid walks among ancient cave dwellings the region is famous for. From the front door of the hotel there is a 7Km hiking trail following a small brook up a remote, cliff walled valley, dotted with cave dwellings on both sides. |
